Drives on the Enterprise Network

Question:

A user asks -- where and what are drives on the Enterprise Network? Explain to me the F:\ and K:\ drives.

Answer:

 
GWUMC The F:\-drive is your private drive on the GWUMC Enterprise Network. It is identified on the drop-down list with your Enterprise Network User ID (example shown, OITSDP on Svr-nwo-candy\Us...). 
  1. The F:\-drive is unique for each Enterprise Network User ID. 
  2. It can be read only by that user. 
  3. You are encouraged to create folders and store your documents (files) on your F:\-drive. 
  4. The Office of Information Technology (OIT/MTI) will automatically back up all information you store on your F:\-drive to tape every night. 
The K:\-drive exists on the Enterprise Network for storage of files that you may share with other Enterprise Network Users within your department
  1. Each department on the GWUMC Enterprise Network has their own unique K:\-drive. It is identified on the drop-down list with your Enterprise Network Department ID (example shown, OIT on Svr-nwo-candy\Users...). 
  2. You are encouraged to create folders and store shared documents (files) on the K:\-drive. 
  3. You may set this as the default location within applications (for example, Word, Excel). 
  4. OIT/MTI will automatically back up information you store on the K:\-drive to tape every night.
