Kevin Crane is a 21 year veteran of Boston EMS (BEMS) where he works in the Research Training and Quality Improvement section and occasional field shifts in an ALS unit. He became an EMT in 1982 and completed Northeastern University’s Paramedic Program in early 1985. His career has included assignments to both BLS and ALS units as well as the Communications and Training sections.
Crane is an active member of the EMS Division of the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association (bargaining unit) serving as a member of their House of Representatives and Bargaining Committee. He has testified on behalf of the EMS/BPPA before various Committees of the Massachusetts Legislature. Crane also works with different committees of the Massachusetts Emergency Medical Services Advisory Board, advocating for protective equipment and safety procedures for EMS providers.
The EMS/BPPA is a member of the EMS Labor Alliance (formerly the North American EMS Employee Organization Network) and Crane has served as the Treasurer of the Alliance since 1997. In 1999, he was recognized as BEMS’ Paramedic of the Year. He has also received Unit Citations from the Department for his role in responding to incidents, and was recognized by the NDMS for his role in the federal response to Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
