Dianne Cavaleri holds the rank of Superintendent of Emergency Preparedness and Special Operations for the City of Boston Emergency Medical Service (BEMS) and has been with Boston EMS for 30 plus years. Prior to her promotion and in addition to her full time position with BEMS, she was active with the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association – EMS Division (the Union that represents Boston’s EMTs and Paramedics), having held the Office of President of that organization from 1988 -2004.
Supt. Cavaleri also held the position of one of seven Mayoral appointments to the board of the City of Boston’s Public Health Commission from 1996 thru 2006. In 2001 she was awarded the David H. Mulligan Leadership Award by the Commission. That same year she was selected Paramedic of the Year by the Metro-Boston EMS Council Region IV. Other honors include the Boston EMS Meritorious Service Award; the Commonwealth of Mass Paramedic of the Year, the Boston EMS Paramedic of the Year, Boston EMS Chief of Department Medal and the Boston EMS Bureau Chief Medal. More recently, she was the first recipient of BEMS’ Stephen M. Lawlor Award for Collaborative Practice which will be awarded annually to one uniformed member of Boston EMS and an individual from Public Safety and/or the private sector who has worked collaboratively with Boston EMS.
Supt. Cavaleri received her EMT training at Boston City Hospital and her Paramedic training at Northeastern University. She also completed a 1500 hour laboratory technician program at Boston City Hospital in 1975.
