Cynthiana Lightfoot, NREMT-P

Cynthiana Lightfoot currently serves as the District of Columbia’s EMSC Project Manager and until recently served as the parent representative since it’s inception in 1998. She runs a non-profit (DCEMSA) who mission is the reduction of cardiac disease and injury prevention and is a long-time volunteer at Washington, DC’s Children’s National Medical Center.  She is a registered paramedic; an instructor for EMT-Basic and EMT-Intermediate courses; and a certified teacher for programs in pediatric prehospital education including Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals, and Special Children's Outreach and Prehospital Education.

During the past 14 years Lightfoot has significantly expanded her role in assisting local government agencies in pediatric prevention and education. She assisted with the funding and development of child car seat fitting stations in DC Firehouses.  She has been assisting the District of Columbia City Council with Child car seat and booster seat, AED and DNR legislation. She has worked to secure appropriate funding to properly training DC Fire and EMS providers in pediatric care.  In 1999, she helped compile the District of Columbia’s Transitional Report on Emergency Medical Services.

Lightfoot is the chair of the Community Advisory Board for the Chesapeake Applied Research Network for EMSC, a member of the Center for Prehospital Pediatrics' Healthcare Disparities Committee and a pediatric representative to the DC City Council where she is currently advocating for safety and injury prevention.

Lightfoot is the recipient of the 2004 Family Member Volunteer of the Year. In 2005 she was awarded the Anthony S. Maniscalco Memorial Scholarship for her community service.
