Ben Hinson is beginning his 30th year as President and Owner of Mid Georgia Ambulance Service, a for-profit, privately held corporation based in Macon. Mid Georgia is currently the largest EMS provider in Georgia outside Metro Atlanta, providing service across a range of regions, including urban areas with populations up to 400,000 and sparsely inhabited rural districts.
Under his leadership, Mid Georgia Ambulance Service utilizes technology solutions in its dispatch system to cover such a broad area. He works closely with his Medical Director Dr. Ray Fowler, putting new ideas into immediate practice to improve patient care. In addition, Mid Georgia’s billing company processes claims for over 30 EMS organizations, using self-developed proprietary software.
Hinson began working for Metro Ambulance, a large private company in Atlanta in 1972 during college. After graduating, he opened Mid Georgia Ambulance with one used ambulance in 1977. Hinson became certified as a Paramedic in the mid 80's (andremains currently credentialed), and teaches classes from EMT-B toACLS. He served with Local, State and National organizations, chaired the Georgia EMS Advisory Council for 9 years (coinciding with the Atlanta Olympics), and recently completed 12 years work with the American Ambulance Association Board of Directors, culminating as President.
