Patricia Berg, PhD, associate professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, was featured in a Newark Star Ledger article on her study of racial disparities in breast cancer. Dr. Berg also wrote an opinion article that appeared in the March 8 edition of the Ft. Lauderdale Sun Sentinel. The article was concerned with the fear of reduced funding of traditional disease research for the funding of anti-bioterrorism research.

Rachel Brem, MD, director of the Breast Cancer Imaging and Interventional Center, was quoted in a HealthDay article on a recent study showing that mammography recalls have higher detection rates; this finding contradicts the current recall guidelines.  Dr. Brem was also quoted in a Medscape article on the same issue.

Frank Cilluffo, associate vice president of Homeland Security, was quoted in a Washington Post article on President Bush's recent outline of Bioterrorism procedures. Cilluffo was also quoted in a National Journal article on the Bush administration's actions just prior to Sept. 11.

Gene Cohen, MD, PhD, director of the Center on Aging, Health and Humanities, was quoted in a Washington Post article on his study involving the health benefits of community-based art programs for older adults.

Jerome Danoff, PhD, PT, associate professor of Exercise Science, recently published an article for Physical Therapy magazine titled, "Evidenced-based Rating of Upper-Extremity Motor Function Tests Used for People Following a Stroke."

Cheryl Focht, MD, MPH, adjunct professor of Prevention and Community Health, was quoted in various media about the health effects of elevated lead levels in the District's water supply. The media included The Washington Post and El Tiempo Latino newspapers and the Telemundo TV news program Facetas.

Arthur Frank, MD, medical director of the Obesity Management Program, was quoted in a MSNBC article on the battles of the weight loss industry.

Tee L. Guidotti, MD, MPH, chair of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, was interviewed by various media on the issue of lead in DC's drinking water. The media included The Washington Post, Kojo Nnamdi Show on WAMU, Fox Five News and El Universal (Spanish-language network).

Allan Goldstein, PhD, chair of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, was quoted in a Business Wire article on a recent study which proved that with age the healing process slows.

Jerry Hauer, director of READI, was quoted in a NY Times article on the lack of emergency training in NY City as it has been noted by city officials.  Hauer also wrote an editorial for the NY Times on New York City's unpreparedness. Hauer was also quoted in an ABC News story on the suspected terrorists arrested in Britain and their plan to use osmium tetroxide as a weapon. Hauer was also quoted in a National Journal article on the Bush administration's actions just prior to Sept. 11. 

Peter J. Hotez, MD, PhD, chair of Microbiology and Tropical Medicine, co-wrote an op-ed article that was featured in a PRNewswire article. The article was on the history (the past 50 years) of vaccines.

Daniel Kaniewski, executive director of the Center for Emergency Preparedness, wrote an opinion article for the March 9 issue of Roll Call Magazine. The article was on the need for legislative jurisdiction for the House Homeland Security Committee.

Jeanne Lambrew, PhD, MSPH, associate professor of Health Policy, was quoted in The Times-Picayune article regarding Louisiana using Medicaid funding before it is too late and the funding is gone.

Paul Maniscalco, PhD (c), MPA, EMT-P, director of Emergency Services Management Program, has been interviewed on being prepared to respond to disasters and terrorism by the following: CBC, CTV, Thunder Bay TV and the Chronicle Tribune. Maniscalco was also interviewed by Homeland First Response for a bit on public safety readiness to respond to mass casualty incidents; Frontline First Responder Magazine for an article on the current state of affairs for emergency response organizations OPSEC and INFOSEC; Emergency Medical Services Magazine for an article on recruitment and retention of EMS personnel; Washington Post and the Newark Star Ledger regarding the nationwide recruitment and retention crisis for EMTs and paramedics and the London Times on violence against EMTs and paramedics. 

Alpen Patel, MD, director of Rhinology and Allergy, was quoted in a HealthDay article on the differences between allergies and sinusitis and how both are diagnosed and treated.

Steve Patierno, MD, executive director of the GW Cancer Institute, was interviewed on WTOP concerning cancer disparities.

Jerrold Post, MD, clinical professor of psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, was quoted in Sofia Morning News (Bulgaria) on the al Qaeda leadership position of Ayman al Zawahiri. Dr. Post was also quoted in various media on another attack aimed around election time which included The Seattle Times, The Boston Globe, The Star Tribune and Singapore Press.

Stephen Pribut, DPM, assistant clinical professor of Surgery, was involved with USATODAY, Talk Today, a two-hour online chat regarding walking towards a healthier body.

Christina Puchalski, MD, MS, director of GWISH, was interviewed by Naples Daily News (Naples, Fla.) regarding her speaking at a conference there abaout spirituality in healthcare. Dr. Puchalski was also quoted in Kansas and Lexington Herald-Leader articles on the debate of whether prayer can really heal and CBS nightly news, as well as CBS-WINK in Naples, Florida, concering her work at GWISH.

Arnold Schwartz, MD, PhD, professor of Pathology, was quoted in Delaware's The News Journal article on a new mobile lab.

Cynthia Tracy, MD, Internal Medicine, was quoted in a BioWorld Online article on the FDA approval of an artificial heart to be used as a bridge for patients with end-stage heart failure who are awaiting a transplant. 

Catherine L. Turley, EdD, RT, assistant professor of Health Care Sciences, was the author of an article titled, "A Frame Analysis of Radiation Therapy Program Director Leadership."  The article was featured in the spring 2004 issue of Radiation Therapist.
