Basic
HIPAA Training Policy for Faculty
GWUMC
requires that all persons with regular full time faculty appointments
complete its Basic HIPAA Training program offered online at
www.goodoutcomes.com.
* Faculty with appointments at CNMC, the Washington VA, the
Washington Hospital Center, or the Medical Faculty Associates
may provide proof of HIPAA training from these covered entities
in lieu of the GW training program.
Limited
service faculty [adjunct/clinical faculty] must complete the
GW online Basic HIPAA training program as noted above or provide
evidence of HIPAA certification from the covered entity in
which they hold a primary affiliation or other formal HIPAA
training.
* The
George Washington University Medical Center designates this
educational activity for up to 1 hour of category 1 credit
toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Other health
care providers who complete this activity will be awarded
a certificate of
completion.
HIPAA
Research Training for anyone engaged in Human Subjects
Research
Without
exception, before engaging in research activities and prior
to submission to its IRB, GW requires 1) completion of the
Basic HIPAA training or equivalent as noted above and 2) a
HIPAA Certificate of Training documenting attendance at the
seminar "Implementing HIPAA's Privacy Rule in Human Subject
Research" or proof of completion of the online version
of this HIPAA Research training module.
