Basic HIPAA Training Policy for Faculty

GWUMC requires that all persons with regular full time faculty appointments complete its Basic HIPAA Training program offered online at www.goodoutcomes.com. * Faculty with appointments at CNMC, the Washington VA, the Washington Hospital Center, or the Medical Faculty Associates may provide proof of HIPAA training from these covered entities in lieu of the GW training program.

Limited service faculty [adjunct/clinical faculty] must complete the GW online Basic HIPAA training program as noted above or provide evidence of HIPAA certification from the covered entity in which they hold a primary affiliation or other formal HIPAA training.

* The George Washington University Medical Center designates this educational activity for up to 1 hour of category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Other health care providers who complete this activity will be awarded a certificate of
completion.

HIPAA Research Training for anyone engaged in Human Subjects Research

Without exception, before engaging in research activities and prior to submission to its IRB, GW requires 1) completion of the Basic HIPAA training or equivalent as noted above and 2) a HIPAA Certificate of Training documenting attendance at the seminar "Implementing HIPAA's Privacy Rule in Human Subject Research" or proof of completion of the online version of this HIPAA Research training module.
