GroupWise Migration to GWemail

Objective

The Division of IT has identified a need to migrate users from the GroupWise, mail/calendar/contacts etc. platform, to the GWemail (Google) platform. The President's Office, the Vice President of External Relations, The School of Medicine and Health Sciences, School of Public Health, the School of Nursing, the Office of Emergency Management, the Provost Office, HR, Development, the Executive Vice President and Treasurer, Gelman Library, GWPD, and the Division of IT are all currently using GroupWise.

Inclusions and exclusions

The following list identifies users who should not use this page to move their GroupWise account. These users should wait for a “one on one” consultation with a CASS technician. These users will be given specific instructions for setting up times to have assistance.

  • BlackBerry Users: the university is working a Google to BlackBerry solution, but this is not currently in place. When the application is available users will be instructed to work with a technician to configure their BlackBerry individually.
  • GroupWise Resource Owners: GWemail has the ability to create organizational accounts, these will be created separately. A CASS technician will work with the resource owner to configure the new GWemail account appropriately.
  • Complex Cabinet Structure: GWemail does not use cabinets. Google email is “labeled” to help organize a user’s mailbox. For those users who have created a complex organizational structure a CASS technician will assist in migrating the user’s email to more closely resemble the GroupWise mailbox.

Migration process

Before you begin please ensure you have version 8.02 of the Groupwise Client. To check what version you have go to "help->about groupwise" in your client to check the version number. If you need to upgrade, please run the Groupwise 8.02 from your application launcher. Click here for an example of how to do this. Before you begin please ensure you have version 8.02 of the Groupwise Client. You must also change your "preferred email" listed in Banner.
